NRL news 2024 | Latrell Mitchell Triple M interview, Toby Rudolf comments, Sunday Footy Show

Cronulla Sharks cult hero Toby Rudolf believes there’s a “fine line” with post-match interviews after Latrell Mitchell‘s R-rated appearance on Triple M.

Mitchell has been criticised for an expletive-laden interview where he said “I don’t care if I’m swearing, boys” after his side’s round two loss against the Broncos.

Rudolf has previously been in trouble for his own comments when he copped an official warning from the NRL in 2021 for saying on Fox Sports he’ll celebrate a win with “1000 beers” and “try and pull something”.

Speaking on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, Rudolf admitted “I did learn the hard way” to be conscious about what he says in the media because “it’s hard to say just about anything these days”.

Asked for his thoughts on the South Sydney star’s comments, Rudolf understood both sides of the argument around role models but also how a player is feeling post-match.

“I don’t think it’s probably the best look for someone, you know you’re on camera and shouldn’t be swearing – but in saying that, you just played 80 minutes of an emotional game that takes everything out of you as well,” he said.

“It’s definitely a fine line and fine balance. It’s hard for me to comment on, I got myself in strife before and hadn’t meant to do it.

“Whether it was on purpose or accidental, we’re praised as these role models which we probably should try to be and aspire to be.

“He’s a pretty good guy off the field, he won the Ken Stephen Medal last year for all the stuff he does off the field.

“A slip up here and there is not the end of the world I don’t think.”

The Sydney Morning Herald has confirmed the NRL would look to talk with Mitchell over his comments.
